Slim Devices Sponsors 'Squeezebox Plugin Contest'
Unleashes the Creative Juices of Open Source Community
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Aug. 9 -- Slim Devices, Inc. today announced the launch of the "Squeezebox Plugin Contest" to reward the contributions of its active developer community and demonstrate the unique flexibility and power of the Squeezebox and SlimServer platform. The contest coincides with the launch of an updated version of Slim Devices' award-winning network music player that features a graphic display capable of presenting variable-sized fonts and more flexible layout.
"We have always been amazed by the ideas our customers come up with given the limitations of the original display," said Dean Blackketter, Slim Devices' CTO. "Now that the Squeezebox is capable of displaying bitmapped graphics and fast animation, we want to stimulate the creative juices of our developer community and see what happens!"
The contest is open to any software or hardware developer who enhances the Squeezebox and SlimServer experience by creating new font sets, games, information tools, visualizers, animations, movies, web skins, screensavers or case modifications.
The prizes are as follows:
- Grand prize -- the first hand-made SLIMP3, serial number #00000001 signed by the company founder PLUS the winner's choice of either a new 12" Apple iBook or a Tektronix TDS1002 oscilloscope.
- 1st place prize -- two graphics wireless Squeezebox players.
- Five runner-up prizes -- one graphics wireless Squeezebox player.
Slim Devices will judge the entries and will have the final say in deciding the winners. Entries must be submitted by 23:59 PST on Monday, September 6th, 2004.
Submissions must be made available for public review on or before the contest deadline and will be judged on the following merits:
- Impressiveness or usefulness
- Completeness
- Best use of new graphic display capabilities
- Cross-platform compatibility: Windows, Mac, Linux
- Ease of use and installation
Details about the contest and rules are available on the Slim Devices website, http://www.slimdevices.com.
